Standish EngineeringSince 1950

Made in Standish, delivered worldwide

We are a family business, now in its third generation, with a long-standing team, many of whom have been with us for decades. Nick Kindon, our Managing Director, is the grandson of the man who took on Chris Heyworth in 1977.

People who stay, and people we train

Chris Heyworth planned a career in the armed forces until a meeting with Nick's grandad changed his mind. Nearly five decades on, he runs our grinding section and spends a lot of his time passing what he knows on to apprentices.

Kyle joined as a trainee at 17, completed his apprenticeship in 2025 and moved on to programming a multi-axis turn-mill. Kyle and Derek Fitzgerald have since completed a five-day CNC programming course at the CNC Training Academy. Lewis joined from Standish High School in September 2024 and splits his four-year apprenticeship between our workshop and Wigan College.

We keep investing in machines too: multi-tasking lathes, 5-axis machining centres, and LOSMA oil mist filters on each machine to keep the air in the shop clean.
